Song Review: Beyonce 'Love on Top'

Beyonce

Beyonce's, yet to be released fourth solo album, '4', yields a single called 'Love on Top' that gives thanks to a lover for putting her 'Love on Top'.  The official release date for '4' is set for June 28th.

We love the retro elements of this track, with its finger snaps, horns and an old-school feel that makes us swear we must have heard the song before on some Whitney Houston record from the ’80s. Accompanied by sweet backing harmonies on the bridge and chorus, Beyonce sings:
“Baby it’s you, you’re the one I love / You’re the one I need / You’re the only one I see / Come on baby it’s you / You’re the one that gives your all / You’re the one I can always call / When I need you make everything stop / Finally you put my love on top.”
We can’t help but notice how many of the compliments are preceded by the word “finally,” like when Bey sings, “Nothing’s perfect, but it’s worth it after fighting through my tears / And finally you put me first.” The singer seems to be sending subtle digs that her man didn’t give her his full attention before.
At least he’s doing a better job now — and he’d better keep it up, because we know she will drop him in a second if he doesn’t hold up his end of the deal. In that sense, ‘Love on Top’ is both a sweet love song and an expression of girl power.
The glorious chorus carries the final two minutes of the song through three(!) key changes, as Beyonce’s vocals keep reaching higher and higher. Just one minor quibble: At the end, when the synths drop out, why does the song fade out so soon? Another 20 seconds of the stripped-down chorus would’ve been a nicer way to go out.

Take a listen to Bey's new single below!  What do you guys think?  Sounds good to me!

Beyonce's Backstage Idol Rehearsal Of "1+1"

Thought this was worth seeing and listening to.  Beyonce is caught backstage rehearsing for her American Idol debut of "1+1".  Singing only to a piano, so almost  a capella, you can hear the passion in her voice.  This proves the gurl can sang (just in case you had any doubts)!

Beyonce Debuts New Single "1+1" On The Season Finale Of "American Idol"

Beyonce at the Billboard Music Awards, May 22, 2011

As a follow-up to the foot-stomping "Run The World Girls", Beyonce's second single, "1+1"is a power ballad (this is the zone where I feel she's at her best).  She debuted the single on the final night of "American Idol" to millions of viewers.  It was an emotionally-charged performance.  Take a look below, if you missed it.

The juxtaposing songs are the first shreds of evidence that she's keeping her promise that a whole new array of sounds will make their way into "4," which drew inspiration from an abundance of sources.
Along with the band of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, Beyonce said she, "found a lot of inspiration in '90s R&B; Earth, Wind & Fire; DeBarge; Lionel Richie; Teena Marie." In addition, she said, "I listened to a lot of Jackson 5 and New Edition, but also Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Prince. Add in my hip-hop influences, and you can hear how broad it is. I also gave myself more freedom to really belt out some songs, and bring soul singing back."
